Basic Email Update 07

(this is a hidden post for members of The BASIC only. Please don’t share.)

September 4th, 2014

It’s been over 3 months since I last wrote to y’all. Yikes. I blame two things: 1) there just wasn’t a lot to write about, and 2) I’ve been pretty busy.

Here’s what’s new in 5 easy to digest points:

#1 – I had to scramble to find work

I lost my big client in April with little notice, so I had to hustle to find stuff to do. It kind of worked.

I booked two website builds and helped my pastor write a mini book. Thanks to those projects I at least had one profitable month out of the last three.

#2 – I spent a lot of time on FreeTravlr

This is something Tyler Stanton and I have been working on for months now, and we’re days away from launching.

It’s an online course that will help you do what we’ve done: take amazing vacations for next to nothing thanks to the credit card rewards industry.

Our Beta Launch is six days away and the course will be offered for the lowest price it will ever be. If you want to know when it launches, sign up here: FreeTravlr.com

#3 – I poked the bear

Speaking of FreeTravlr, I wrote a snarky piece poking holes in a Dave Ramsey article regarding credit card rewards programs.

It was my second highest blog traffic day EVER and I got a lot of positive feedback on it. (and some negative too.)

Check it out: What Dave Ramsey Has Wrong About Credit Card Reward Programs.

#4 – I wrote 10,881 words on the NFL

I had grand plans of launching a Kickstarter to support this idea I had of a humorous NFL Preview. I loved everything about the idea, but I got too busy with paying work to make it happen, so I went to Plan B.

Plan B was writing up the preview on my blog, and I’m really happy with how it came out. I wrote about each division and included real insight (I did a ton of research) and real jokes (that are hopefully funny).

I’ll be writing and podcasting about the NFL all season, so if you’re into that, come along for the ride. If not, sorry!

#5 – We had a great summer as a family!

Work stuff has been up and down, but we had an amazing summer as a family. We did a week at the beach in July, and then in August we visited my brother Josh in San Francisco for 3 days, drove down the Pacific Coast Highway, and did L.A. for two days.

We did the whole trip – flights, car, and a hotel night – all for around $423 thanks to FreeTravlr. I wrote a post about that has a bunch of pictures from our trip, if you’re into seeing other people’s vacation photos.

The Allains Do the West Coast!

So yeah, that’s what’s new with me.

Thanks for reading, and check out FreeTravlr if you haven’t yet. Like my friend Jake told me recently, it pretty much changed his life.

talk soon,
Bryan
