I haven’t written to you guys in 7 months, which is insane and shameful and all that. Here’s everything that’s new with me in 5 bite-sized points.
#1 – Work is going well
I currently have two clients I am doing various writing for, and it’s going well. Neither are long-term commitments, so 6 weeks from now they might no longer be clients, but I’m learning to be okay with the uncertainty.
Both clients are also friends, so that has been interesting as well. You really have to be intentional about your communication and do the best job you can compartmentalizing friendship and business. I’m not great at it yet, but getting better.
#2 – I’m managing a baseball team
Parker (my son) is playing 12U baseball and for some reason I’m still not sure of I committed to managing the team.
Talk about a learning experience…wow. It is really stretching me and helping me grow in some leadership areas that I am really deficient in. After the first few weeks I was convinced it was going to be a train wreck, but I’ve settled in a bit and am feeling much better now. Our first game is just 5 days away!
#3 – I’m messing around with Periscope
Have you played around with Periscope yet? It’s the live-streaming app from the Twitter folks that lets you live-stream from your phone with a click or two.
It’s iPhone only right now, but apparently it’s coming to Android soon. Check it out and follow me for banal commentary on trivial matters.
#4 – My passion project involves the NFL
For the past month I’ve been working on a plan to release an NFL Preview Guide for the 2015 Season, and so far so good. The guide is going to be insightful and funny. Definitely funny, hopefully insightful, and like no other NFL guide out there.
My plan is to Kickstarter it in July, and between now and then I’m writing it and planning the Kickstarter, and trying to generate moral support.
If you’d like an inside look at the process of creating it, or you want to be involved on some level, I’ve created a Facebook Group for people to be a part. Here’s the link, I’d love for you to check it out:
Bryan’s NFL Preview Project Group
(Seriously, I’d love for you to be a part. I’m gonna need a lot of help with this, from ideas, to naming the thing, to other decisions I’ll need to make.)
#5 – I video journaled on YouTube for 30 Days
Back in March I decided to video journal on YouTube for 30 straight days. I called it The Bryan Allain Experiment (BAx) and it was fun and sometimes not fun.
The main reason I did it was just to see if I could follow through and complete it, which I did, so that was a good feeling. During the 30 days (Day 16, I think) my 99-yr old grandfather got very ill, and it was a challenge to know how to handle that on camera, but in the end I think it helped me process it all.
(Sadly, he passed away a few weeks ago, a few months shy of 100, but he lived a great full life and left quite a legacy.)
If you’d like to watch some of the BAx videos, you can find them here: Bryan’s YouTube Channel
So yeah, that’s what’s new with me.
I’ll try not to go so long before the next update!
talk soon,
Bryan
