Bible Cereal and Cash4Jesus

This week I ran across two of the most bizarre mix-ups of culture and Christianity that I’ve seen in a while.

So bizarre, in fact, that I had to share them on the blog.

Last night in the mail I got a Cash For Gold postcard about a local event happening at the end of the month. I chuckled when I saw the front, and then I turned it over and my face contorted in 7 different directions.

What do I think of Cash For Gold evangelizing?

I think my daughter Kylie summed it up best. She picked up the post card, read the front, read the back, shrugged her shoulders and dropped it on the ground.

The other bizarro piece I ran across this week came from Erica’s trip to the grocery store on Tuesday night. We’re in the middle of a church-wide fast right now where our diet is pretty restrictive, and Erica came home with a cereal that she could use to make one of the recipes we had.

Gotta admit, have never seen a cereal like this before.

A few thoughts on this…

1. Kinda nice that you can eat breakfast and read the Bible at the same time. Talk about killing two birds with one stone.

2. I love how they call it “The Original”. Because as we all know, there have been hundreds of knock-off Ezekiel 4:9 cereals.

3. Was there any doubt in your mind that they were going with the KJV translation on this?

4. Wheat, Barley, Beans, Lentil, Millet, and Spelt all in one breakfast cereal…ummmm….can someone pass the FrankenBerry?

5. The verse says to take all those ingredients AND MAKE BREAD OF IT! This cereal is in complete disobedience to the word of God. Let all who eat of it be anathema!

So the question is: Which one of these disturbs you more?

The Cash For Gold and Jesus or the Bible Verse Cereal?
