With a new year upon us, it’s time to look back and make some predictable and not-so-predictable choices for my favorite things of 2009.

MY FAVORITE BOOK OF 2009 – Donald Miller’s “A Million Miles in a Thousand Years”
Easy and entertaining read that made a lot of sense. Highly recommended.
MY FAVORITE MEAT OF 2009 – Spicy Italian Sausage
I love encased pork products and I’m not afraid to tell the world.
MY FAVORITE NEW FRIEND OF 2009 – Tyler Stanton.
A kindred spirit who, like me, used to love Caedmon’s Call during his formative years, likes to blog, and enjoyed making people laugh. Look for more collaborations with this moron in 2010.

MY FAVORITE MET GOAL OF 2009 – Speaking 3 Times.
I wanted to speak 3 times this year, and I got it done. Spoke in Texas, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina. Hope to keep doing this in 2010.
MY FAVORITE UNMET GOAL OF 2009 -Getting an article published in a magazine.
I wanted to get an article published in RELEVANT, but then I realized that Jason Boyett writes all their stuff. I tried for Cat Fancy, but turns out their readership isn’t interested in the Other Ways to Skin a Cat. Truth is, this goal got shoved aside when I started focusing on my book more.
MY FAVORITE ALBUM OF 2009 – Phoenix’s Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix
Solid from front to back and wicked catchy.
I also loved Derek Webb’s Stockholm Syndrome, Copeland’s You Are My Sunshine, United’s Across the Earth, Natasha Bedingfield’s Pocketful of Sunshine, The Mint’s Love is Vapor, Nada Surf’s The Weight is a Gift, Kanye West’s 808s and Heartbreak, and Jared Anderson’s Live From My Church.
MY FAVORITE TV SHOW OF 2009 – LOST
There is no second.
MY FAVORITE GADGET OF 2009 – The iPhone
Is the Droid better? I just don’t care. I’ve got the games, maps, apps, web, and phone that I need. (and I rarely drop calls.)
MY FAVORITE EAR CLEANING DEVICE OF 2009 – The Q-Tip
Barely edging out the paperclip, fingernail, and pocketknife.
MY FAVORITE BLOGS OF 2009 -I couldn’t pick just one
Ben Arment, Rachelle Gardner, Tyler Stanton, Stuff Christians Like, ProBlogger, and Chip MacGregor. (If you’d like to be on this list next year, send a year’s supply of Cheez-its to my couch.)

I was with my favorite person, experiencing the pure bliss of accomplishing a difficult goal. Then the pain set in.

I got to meet a whole bunch of folks for the first time, I got kicked in the leg repeatedly, and I got a swag bag that I lost the next day. (Thanks again to Brad Ruggles for putting this on.)
MY FAVORITE DRUG OF 2009 – Ibuprofen
