The 50,000 Pairs in 50 Days Challenge

I just bought 2 pairs of shoes for someone who needs them. It cost me $5. And about 3 minutes.

You can too. Actually, you should too. It’s all a part of a fund raising campaign started by blogger Anne Jackson and Soles4Souls founder Wayne Elsey. They are trying to get people to buy 50,000 pairs of shoes in 50 days. Impossible? Maybe. Maybe not.

I could give you some GOOD reasons to do this, but just to mix things up here are five BAD reasons:

1. Because it makes you feel better about yourself to give.
2. Because you can tell everyone you donated to a charity and make them think better of you.
3. Because it is your good deed of the day.
4. Because it’s only $5 and you’re so stinking rich you would wipe your butt with 5-dollar bills if it didn’t hurt so much.
5. Because I told you to, and you do everything I tell you to do.

Wow, those are some awful reasons. The best reason to do this, of course, is because there are kids and moms and dads out there who need shoes. Here’s what Anne said on her blog:

over 300 million people around the world don’t have shoes and are forced to walk around unsafe and in potentially life-threatening conditions. not only is it unsafe physically, but having to look down all the time causes these people to also live without dignity and confidence.

So yeah, if you have 3 minutes and 5 bucks, go buy 2 pairs of shoes for $5 for someone who needs them.

And the next time you try to decide which of the 10 pairs of shoes/sneakers/boots you’re going to wear, be thankful for what you have.

(and if you do donate, let me know in the comments so I can give you a thumbs up and a “way to go”!)

Great Christian Bloggers

October 7th, 2008 by Bryan Allain | No Comments | Filed in web stuff

If you like what you read here, you might enjoy these as well…these are some of the Christian bloggers on the interspheres that I admire…

Ragamuffin Soul - Carlos Whittaker is a worship leader at Buckhead Church in Atlanta. He’s got one of the most widely read blogs of any Christian online. He’s honest, funny, and always willing to try new things. If you watch L.A. Ink, you might recognize him as the guy who got Saul tattooed on his arm.

FlowerDust.net - Anne Jackson is the author of the upcoming book “Mad Church Disease”. She’s on staff at Cross Point Church in Nashville, TN. The thing I love about her blog is the way her community has rallied around the causes she believes in. According to her blog, her readers have donated over $100,000 to help those lacking resources.

History in the Making - Ben Arment is a former church planter who now works for Catalyst. He’s all about innovation, be it as a leader, an artist, or a christian. His posts are always short and to the point, and usually it’s a great point.

Stuff Christians Like - Jon Acuff runs one of the most popular Christian humor blogs on the planet. An unrelated spinoff of the hilarious Stuff White People Like, SCL pokes fun at the Christian sub-culture with great writing and sharp wit. Jon gets bonus points for telling me in an email last month, “I read some of your work tonight and am in awe at what you are able to produce, from the don miller site to your own site to the prayer for blowouts. You are managing an empire my friend and that is awesome and inspiring. I could learn a lot from you…” Flattery will get you everywhere, my friend. Keep up the great work!
