I killed Tony Soprano

Everyone is blogging about the Sopranos today so i thought I’d throw my hat in the ring with 10 not-so-salient points about the show:

  1. I have never watched a second of the show. Some would say this is tragic. I’m not too concerned about it.
  2. People are pretty bent out of shape now that the show is over. I can’t relate, but know that i will be feeling like that in May of 2010 when LOST ends
  3. Apparently Tony had a different shirt on when he entered the diner than he did sitting at the table in the final scene? i don’t know if that’s true or not, or if it has significance, but I like spreading rumors.
  4. The ending left things up for interpretation, in case you hadn’t heard. 25% of folks think it was genius. 70% are ticked off and disappointed. The other 5% think Paris Hilton should be freed so she can go cry to her mommy.
  5. Will Leitch, huge Sopranos fan and David Chase apologist, had a great take on why he was hoping that there would have been more closure over at Deadpsin.com:

Years of television have trained you to expect a conclusion, he [David Chase] seemed to be saying, but you’re not gonna get one. To which we respond: Years of “The Sopranos” have trained us to expect nothing. We just thought you might be nice and give us something anyway.

  6. Most popular theory out there now is that when the screen went black it was Tony being shot by the guy who went into the bathroom. Earlier in the season Tony said something to the effect of “you never hear the sounds of the bullet that kills you”.
  7. I thought the show’s creator David Chase was, like, 31. Googled him today to find out he’s a few years into his sixties. doh.
  8. James Gandolfini apparently wants nothing more to do with the character of Tony Soprano. We’ve seen this before, when Bronson Pinchot swore off everything to do with Balki Bartokomos that he could.
  9. Some say “The Wire” on HBO is every bit as good as “The Sopranos”. There’s another show i’ll probably never watch.
  10. David Chase told me not to say anything, but, i just can’t hold my silence any longer. I shot Tony Soprano. It was me. And then i shot Meadow and A.J. and Carmela. I would have shot Phil, but apparently his head got crushed by a car. I shot Paulie Walnuts too, though i don’t know if he is still alive or if they killed him in Season 5. I tried to shoot David Chase, but i shot the wrong guy because i thought David Chase was 31. Turns out i wounded a key grip from the show’s production staff. He’s in stable condition and recovering quite well. I’m looking for a good lawyer. Leave a comment if you know of any.

LOST goes hitchcock

As for LOSTthis week, i loved the episode. thought it was so well written and so well done. i still cant believe that they are buried alive…that is too freaky. but the subtle things in that episode were great. even how close “paolo lies” sounds like “paralyzed”. the fact that they had dr. artz introduce the spiders and how that tied in. it was a great episode for sure. a couple of things that are interesting that i’ve found on different sites around the internets:

-Locke said “nothing stays buried on this island”. does that mean that nikki and paolo arent dead? will their bodies dissapear like other dead folk (Christian Shephard, Eko’s brother)? will the diamonds be dug up?

-what about Hurley’s comment when reading the Expose script “No way, Mr Lashade was the Cobra? He’s this big bad guy, his identity has been shrouded in mystery for 4 seasons…” do you think that has some connection to LOST. will we find out someone’s identity in Season 5? Will it be one of the LOSTIES who turns out to be “the cobra” or this Jacob that is running the show.

-when Nikki said “Promise me we won’t end up like them” was that foreshadowing? In the end, Nikki and Paolo did end up like them. dead.

-Paolo knew that Ben and Juliet were planning on kidnapping Jack and didnt say anything…strange.

-How about when Vincent took the blanket off of Nikki and Paolo’s bodies? It was a sign that they werent dead…i missed that one.

-remember that lit cigarette in the Pearl? was that left by Paolo? Maybe he went back to the Pearl between the time that he found it and bit it.

-the walkie talkie was introduced but not really expounded upon. i bet that definitely comes into play in future episodes.

-was mikhail really dead from the sonic fence? perhaps he had a poison pill he could take that would make it look like he was dead (similar to what the spider did to nikki and paolo). he did say that the fence no longer worked. (but then again there was blood comign out of his ears)

-apparently the TV show Locke was watching in the last episode when he’s in his house was “Expose” there were references to Crystal and the Cobra.

-what if vincent digs out nikki and paolo? imagine if they did a whole episode from vincent’s point of view?

-at the beginning of the episode nikki’s director tells her that he can bring her back from the dead (like with a bulletproof vest). is that the writer’s way of telling us that she isnt dead yet?

around the web in 80 seconds

+ Directv / TiVo issues are apparently happening to alot of folks recently. The problems revolve around the Season Pass function not working properly. I got screwed by it the other day when the TiVo didnt record The Office and i had to buy it on iTunes for $1.99. Maybe i should sue them? They better get this fixed before LOST comes on. Lord knows i don’t want to have to manually record it! geesh.

+ for a while most of us thought that LOST would go about 6 seasons. The way it looks now, it will be lucky to last 5. The show’s braintrust have already said that Season 4 will be run just like FOX’s 24, 22 straight episodes, and that they are in talks with ABC regarding the hows and whens of wrapping up the show. Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof often speak about the X-Files, and how the show overstayed it’s welcome and, as a result, didn’t pay off loyal viewers in the end. Glad to know that they are willing to learn from other’s mistakes. full story here.

+ this game is a very addicting one. I’ve gotten through the last level with a final score of somewhere around 18000 points. You spend money on weapons to kill things which earns you more money. But when you clear a level, you gain interest on your money, so the idea is to optimize. Use just enough weapons to get you through so that you can maximize interest. i know it doesn’t sound fun, but there’s something inherently enjoyable about blasting a sheep to smithereens, no?

LOST coming back earlier?

my buddy Eric alerted me to this rumor about the possible resurgence of LOST in January (either the 10th or 17th). Of course, if LOST does come back 4 weeks ahead of time, there will have to be a 4-week break in there somewhere, so pick your poison.

Personally, I’d rather just wait until February and then go 17 straight weeks. Right now my LOST box is up on the shelf, like i’ve said before, and once i bring it down I’d like to keep it down. Compartmentalization can be a good thing once in a while.
