Now Kicking For the Eagles

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

I have bizarre dreams almost every night. Most nights I remember them too. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing.

Last night I dreamed I was a kicker for the Philly Eagles. I made my way into the locker room and CBS Announcer Jim Nantz was set up right next to me. We said Hi to each other and then i proceeded to try and get my uniform on. It was taking me way too long to get on, and the other players left to go do interviews or something, and I was still fiddling with my belt. Then I woke up…

And now I’m remembering that I had a dream before that one where i was watching a movie and I could tell that they were filming it at a place I went to summer camp at - Word of Life Island in Schroon Lake, New York. That’s about all I remember about that dream. Just silly.

I’ll be enjoying some nice weather today. Probably cutting my grass at some point. Going out for lunch with mister derek pilon, so that should be fun.

with regards to the book subtitles, i think I’ve got one I like best:

PRAYERS FOR BLOWOUTS - Finding God Between the White Lines

Hope you all enjoy your weekend…

subtitled

April 11th, 2008 by Bryan Allain | 2 Comments | Filed in life

I’m working on the subtitle to my book-in-progress right now. It’s got to be something a little more poignant, spirited, cutting, polarizing, determined, and definitive than what it is now.

Remember the title of the book is (was) Prayers For Blowouts - and Other Collisions of Sports and Faith.

Here’s a few ideas I have. Please let me know if any of these stand out to you:

1) Prayers For Blowouts - Why Touchdowns, Little League, and Obsessive Sports Fans Matter

2) Prayers For Blowouts - Living at the Intersection of Sports and Faith

3) Prayers For Blowouts - A Christian Sports Fan’s Search for Faith in a Sports-Obsessed Culture

4) Prayers For Blowouts - God, Games, and Why it’s All Good

5) Prayers For Blowouts - Finding God in the Bleachers, on the Base Paths, and above the Rim

5a) Prayers For Blowouts - Finding Faith in the Bleachers, on the Base Paths, and above the Rim

6) Prayers For Blowouts - Why the World Would be a Better Place if Every Christian was a Sports Fan

Thanks in advance for you input.

red tea, missions, and Seacrest

time for some stream of consciousness posting because i’d rather just type than think at this point. feel free to throw tomatoes in the comments section.

- deep breath -

…so, i’ve been drinking a lot of tea lately. i think tea drinking is great for your health. I’m no scientist, and I didn’t sleep in a Holiday Inn Express last night, but I did sleep in my own bed, which is very comfortable. But yeah, my favorite tea right now is “Moroccan Pomegranate Red” by Celestial Seasonings. It’s a Rooibos tea (red tea) and it tastes great. perfect blend of sweet and tart. Drinking tea is great, especially in the evening, because it helps fill up your stomach with something other than half a box of cheez-its, which I’ve been known to do. Although my favorite snack is still sharp cheddar cheese and Roasted Garlic Triscuits, when you eat them with a cup of tea, you won’t eat as much.

…I was voted in as deacon at church on Sunday, and I’m excited about serving on the team. Speaking of teams, Parker’s Tee-Ball team is called the RiverCats, and I think their favorite part of the entire practice is right at the end when we all put our hands in and ‘yell’ “1-2-3 RIVERCATS!”. Seriously, They love that. Though I’m still not sure what a rivercat is exactly. I thought cats hated water, especially water that runs rapidly in one direction. I’m not a big fan of cats myself. And I’m not a fan of water either. I mean, i like to drink it and all, but I’ve never been a huge swimmer. (don’t even get me going on swimming when jellyfish are involved) So it’s funny that I’m coaching the Rivercats. Maybe I’d be even more into it if our name was the CheeseItLovers? We could get the kids to say “1-2-3 CHEEZ-ITS!” or we could end the cheer each week with a different type of cheese, perhaps. “1-2-3 HARVATI!” or “1-2-3 PEPPERJACK!” The kids would probably like that too, they’re only 5 you know, it doesn’t take much.

I think Erica and I will watch “Idol Gives Back” tonight, there’s supposed to be a lot of cameos and good performances. Ryan Seacrest is a beast. I read online that he works ridiculous hours every week and that he is setting himself up to run half the world at some point. I think he owns Dick Clark. The sexual jokes between him and Cowell get to me sometimes, they are just a little too into it. Not that they are into each other, I don’t think that. I just think that Simon is probably a dirty man with the way he ogles female contestants and makes remarks about them. Not judging him or anything, that’s his right i suppose, just saying…in other news, I picked up “Wide Open Spaces” by Jim Palmer the other day. I’ve read a lot of good things about it. I’ll also be reading “Sex, Sushi, and Salvation” by Christian George soon. I just finished 3 books last weekend that I’ll be blogging about soon…

…guess that’s it for right now. Got my first meeting tonight as a deacon serving on the Missions Team, so that will be fun. I’m honored to be a part of what God is doing around the world, and I want to help the people of our church play as big a role as possible.

what brothers are for

a few notes…

+ the haircut on saturday went well. he went pretty short with it, but that was fine with me. Was it a massive step up from the free haircut i usually get? probably not. but it was better. He did some stuff on top with thinning shears that should keep things under control when i’m 5 weeks out. Before I left I made an appointment for mid-May that I’ll probably keep.

+ at T-Ball practice on thursday night we all nearly froze to death. It had to be 40 degrees or so, and the wind was whipping. But our 7 t-ballers were troopers, and they stuck it out. Most random quote of the night came from little Madison. She told me, “My brothers cuss at me sometimes, but that’s what brothers are for.” Alrighty, then.

+ My NCAA brackets were amazing this year. I picked 6 of 8 Elite Eight teams, 4 of 4 Final Four teams, and I have Kansas beating Memphis in the finals. I think Memphis will win, but I’m hoping for Kansas. How much money will I win if KU cuts down the nets? Nothing. I scribbled together a completely different bracket for the only pool I’m in with a prize - the one at work - and of course, that one is terrible. Go figure.

+ I was voted in as a deacon yesterday at church, so that was pretty exciting. Not that there was much question about whether it would happen or not. Our voting process is just there because it’s in the by-laws. I’m excited to have a role in what God is doing at our church. The current leaders have great vision and passion, and I’m looking forward to partnering with them.

+ My sister Karyn is coming down to visit this weekend, and we’re excited to see her. Looks like the weather might warm up towards the end of the week as well, so that would be a nice change. Let’s have some Spring already!
