Jordan Green, editor of the Burnside Writers Collective, announced this week that some new additions were made to the Burnside Staff. I am one of those additions, and my business cards will read “Associate Sports Editor” when they get printed up. (which will be never).

The website staff page hasn’t been updated yet, but when it does, I’ll point you to it.

My internet friend Ron tagged me in this “six quirks” blog meme, so why not?  (Ron got dragged in by Geof, who was dragged in by Jeff).

The Rules:

  1. Link to the person that tagged you.
  2. Post the rules on your blog.
  3. Share six non-important things/habits/quirks about yourself.
  4. Tag six random people at the end of your post by linking to their blogs.
  5. Let each random person know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their website.

Six Non-important/habits/quirks about me:

  1. I always soap before I shampoo in the shower.
  2. My favorite snack in the world is Extra Sharp Cracker Barrell cheese with Roasted Garlic Triscuits. And thanks to the breath it gives me, it is Erica’s least favorite.
  3. I talk to myself, out loud, when I’m in the car and there’s no music playing. It’s basically the time when I can think through ideas I have, problems that need solutions, and plans that need to be made. Geof calls these passive soaks, which is a good name for them.
  4. Clipping my fingernails is always done the same way. First I clip each nail with the trimmer. Then i use the file smooth out the rough edges. Then i run the blades of the clipper along the nail to get rid of the sharp edge. Lastly i run each nail in between my two front bottom teeth to give them a smooth finish.
  5. I hate washing my car. To me, the exterior of your car is like the exterior of your house. There’s no point in washing it because it’s going to get dirty soon after. I know this is ridiculous, but i can’t be convinced otherwise.
  6. I like to keep the binding of my paperback books in pristine condition. Even the slightest crease will drive me crazy. My goal is that you can pick up a book that I’ve finished and have no idea that i had read through it.

Ok. Now for the victims in this blog tagging…

NO obligation for y’all to do this, i just wanted to make sure i followed the rules.

a few things here and there worth mentioning…

+ we havent had any significant snow here at all, and we’re almost halfway thru february. am i complaining? no.  but its crazy. ive only had to shovel one time. i guess it would be nice if the kids had a few inches to play in at some point, but i’m already ready for the spring.

+ Caedmon’s is back out on the road this week for their Overdressed Tour. Last time they hit the road I was with them, so a little part of me is wishing I was out with them again, because it’s so much fun. But they’ll be here in town 2 weeks from today, so I can’t complain. Should be a fun show.

+ Kylie had her first sleepover last night. I’m picking her up at noon. Can’t believe she’s old enough for sleepovers. I’m guessing she loved it though. she loves being with her friends.

+ I’ve been posting a lot over at my sports/faith blog Prayers for Blowouts. It’s been fun to have more content to share lately, and I’ve even had a new friend, Jason Boyett, doing some guest posting there. Jason has written a few books, and is a prety talented guy. Things are moving steadily along with my book. Trying to polish up a few chapters to send out with the proposal. When there’s something to report on that, I will.

+ Rumor has it that the Writer’s strike could end soon. Supposedly the writers are being presented with a deal today. Maybe if that happens they will air the second half of this season of LOST in the fall? that would be nice. lots of good stuff (and i use the term “good” loosely) on tv right now. LOST, Survivor, Big Brother (next week), and Project Runway (Erica got me sucked in).

+ softball practice starts tomorrow! we’ll be playing catch and some basketball. i bought a new glove this week, so I’m excited to break that puppy in.

My wonderful wife Erica turns 27 today, and to celebrate we are going to be going out to dinner with a bunch of friends to El Serrano, a great Mexican restaurant in Lancaster. Matt and Renee are coming down from Manhattan for the night, bringing some fresh baked cupcakes from the city as a surprise for Erica. For her birthday I got her a gift card to Kirkland’s Home, where she can go willy nilly buying decorations for the house. I also got her some pinkish-orangish roses yesterday, that are opening up on the kitchen table as i type. Matt and Kendra will be joining us tonight, as will Than and Kandace. After dinner we’re coming back to our place to hang out. Games, Stogies, and Yuengling may all be involved.

Erica’s 26th year was pretty amazing. She continued to hold her crown as the best mom and best wife of all time. She kept our home together through sickness and health, kept our bellies full with inventive and delectable meals, and oh, yeah, she even ran the Philly Marathon.

Feel free to send Erica a birthday wish if you like (ericaallain-at-yahoo-dot-com) …
