The Bryan vs Tyler NFL Battle

34 Comments 19 August 2010

There is an epic battle brewing that is so intense, Frank Peretti and Stephen King are hiding under their covers in the fetal position waiting for it to pass.

This is not a battle waged with spears and swords, nor is it a battle fought in the spiritual realm. This is far less important than that.

It is a battle of mind and pigskin. It is a battle of deduction and prognostication.

It is a battle of football.

My 2010 Blog All-Stars

22 Comments 15 July 2010

As I was cleaning up my Google Reader subscriptions yesterday I realized how many blogs I used to read have fallen by the wayside.

Some have stopped being good, others have just stopped.

It made me want to celebrate the blogs that I love the most, so here they are. (and since it’s the all-star break in the Major Leagues, let’s make these folks grab their gloves and play the field.)

The 2010 BryanAllain.com Blog All-Stars

Here’s the lineup card:

P – Jon Acuff (StuffChristiansLike.net) [what i love] – Jon is consistent. I know I’m getting a funny post from Jon 4 days a week, a serious post on wednesday, and something community-related on saturday. I know I’m getting his authentic voice because he has done such a good job developing it. To me, Jon is the definition of a great blogger.

C – Tyler Stanton (TylerStanton.com) [what i love] – Tyler is one of the funniest people I know. When he writes something funny on his blog, it’s not just trying to be funny, it actually is funny. It also helps that he knows the power of self-deprecation. He knows about self-defecation too, but we won’t get into that here.

1B – Ben Arment (BenArment.com) [what i love] – I love reading Ben’s blog because of the things Ben has done in his life. He’s written a book, started a conference, planted a church, and left good jobs more than once to pursue his dreams. That kind of resume earns cred with me, and it’s the reason I find his blog so inspiring. Though he might not write as much as he used to, and despite his veiled threats about leaving blogging for tumblr, it’s still one of my go-to sites.

2B – Darren Rowse (ProBlogger.net) [what i love] – Darren blogs for a living and is open and transparent about the things he has done to put himself in that position. Through guest posts and his own writing, he provides consistent inspiration for bloggers like myself who want to get the most out of all the time and effort that goes in to maintaining a healthy blog. Likable, humble, and a great teacher, Darren is the real deal.

5 Questions For Tyler Stanton

No Comments 19 June 2010

Tyler has a new video on his blog today where I ask HIM 5 tough questions.

They involve Doritos, sports, sexiness, wasps, and anger.

Click over to his blog to find out which one of his answers elicited this ridiculous looking response from me.

Advertising Brilliance #010

4 Comments 01 June 2010

Can you believe we’ve made it to Advertising Brilliance video #10? I can, because I knew these videos were my destiny.

I thought we’d blow it out and celebrate hitting double digits by bringing in someone other than me to be in the video. But as you’re about to see, that was a bad idea.

The Lesson: If you want something done right, do it yourself. If you want something done with brilliance, remove yourself from the process and have me do it.

Roll the tape…

7 Signs I’m Having a House Guest

1 Comment 25 May 2010

I’ve got a guest post up at Tyler Stanton’s blog today about having house guests.

I wrote about some of the stupid things I do when we have people staying over at our house. (Not sure if you do that too or if I’m the only one.)

Here’s 2 of the 7 things from the list…

1. I finally get around to those house projects. Erica has asked me to hang pictures roughly 416 times over the past 10 years. I’ve always claimed I was incapable, but with our new kitchen in place I’m trying to be a handyman. Last weekend I hung a couple pictures but my Man Card application STILL got denied. Apparently putting a nail in the wall does not constitute a ‘house project’.

4. I Give the House Tour. I guess the only way this would be acceptable was if my name was Barry Obama. Do I really think people care about where my laundry room is and what my master bathroom looks like? Yes. Yes I do. My house is TOTALLY different from the other 500 houses you’ve been in before in your life. Come, let me show you the unique angles in our hot water closet.

To see the rest of the list, and to find out who our mystery house guests will be, check out the post over at Tyler’s blog.

Oh, and on a LOST note, I plan on posting my wrap up thoughts for the finale and the series as a whole sooner rather than later. So if you’re still not sure what happened and how you feel, be on the lookout for that.
