This is the blog post where I try to make you angry without calling you bad names or kicking you in the shins.

May plan is simple. Give you an honest list of 10 movies I’ve never seen before. I’m betting there’s at least one movie on this list that makes you say, “WHAT! You never saw ___________? You HAVE to see it!!!”.

*Don’t you love how incredulous people get when they find out you’ve never seen one of their favorite movies? “WHAT!!! You’ve never seen Forrest Gump!! Oh my gosh!!” They act as if you just told them you’ve never had a piece of candy before because you were afraid it was poison. “I can’t believe you’ve never experienced this before! It will change your life! This is unacceptable! We have to fix this right away! I am going to come over tomorrow night and help you take care of this before anyone else finds out! How do you live like that? So embarrassing! How are we still friends when I am so much better than you at being a person?”

Anyway, here we go…10 Movies I’ve Never Seen

  1. Saving Private Ryan
  2. Memento
  3. The King of Kong
  4. American Beauty
  5. Slumdog Millionaire
  6. Donnie Darko
  7. Mystic River
  8. Hitch
  9. Goodfellas
  10. The Dark Knight

So two questions…

1. Is there any movie on this list I just HAVE to see?

2. What’s your surprise movie that no one can believe you’ve never seen?

(Maybe Erica and I will rent whichever movie gets the most votes)

saving private ryan and goodfellas are modern classics. i (and rhonda) really loved memento, slumdog and the dark knight and enjoyed all the rest as well… but ryan and goodfellas are two movies that definitely need to be on your must see list. in fact, i just got my buddy aaron to finally see goodfellas for the first time the other day.

  2. Jason Boyett says:

I have never seen “It’s a Wonderful Life” OR “Miracle on 34th Street” OR “A Christmas Story.”

And I’ve only seen a few bits and pieces of “Christmas Vacation.”

I try to limit my deadbeat movie non-viewing to holiday fare.

On your list, the only ones I’ve seen are Saving Private Ryan, Hitch, and American Beauty. The only one you HAVE to see out of those is SPR, but I’m saying that as someone whose Granddad fought in WW2. I really resonated with the ending.

I wouldn’t make Erica watch it, though.

  3. Tyler S. says:

Never seen It’s a Wonderful Life, Sound of Music, the Star Wars movies, or The Pacifier.

  4. Tim McGeary says:

I haven’t seen 5 of the movies on your list. But I will say that you should absolutely see Saving Private Ryan. Memento is a really chilling movie that I found excellent and would recommend, but only after the kids have gone to bed and you know they won’t walk in during the middle. Slumdog was good – probably some speaking material in there for you some day.

But seriously – find a way to see Dark Knight, preferably in HD and on as big a screen as you can. It’s like the Matrix: still a great movie, but it’s never quite the same on my 26″ flat screen.

I haven’t seen any of the Star Trek movies and never plan to. Haven’t seen The King of Kong, American Beauty, Donnie Darko, Mystic River, or Goodfellas from your list. I haven’t seen Brokeback Mountain either, or Superman Returns.

  5. Aaron says:

Titanic. I couldn’t stand the hysteria when I was in high school and stuck with it.

  6. Tim McGeary says:

Watching Titanic brought me one of the funniest moments I’ve ever had in a theatre. We went with some kids in our church youth group (I was in college at the time). One guy, Steve, who was known to speak before thinking, said out loud during an argument between Kate Winslet’s character and her mother “It doesn’t matter who you hook up with. You’re all going to die in a few minutes anyway!”

The whole theatre just roared. It was awesome.

  7. Mary P. says:

lol @ “…i’m so much better than you at being a person” hahaha i get that a lot.

I’ve only see 4 movies on your list. Most recently, I saw Slumdog Milionaire. I enjoyed it. It kept my attention, which is always a good thing. I have no attention span, so I’m not much of a movie watcher.

Hence, I’ve never seen The Matrix, Fight Club, E.T., Bambi…(although the ending has been spoiled for me), the list could go on and on…

  8. Tripp Crosby says:

I’ve never seen Braveheart or 4 weddings and a funeral

  9. Lindsay says:

slumdog millionaire-a must see. hitch-pretty funny. the dark night-great acting and it’s batman.. c’mon. i haven’t seen the rest either.

  10. Bryan Allain says:

@Tyler – if you’ve never seen the Star Wars movies, a little piece of me just died.

@Mary – Fight Club is another one I havent seen either.

@Aaron – good job on Titanic. There’s 6.5 hours of my life I’ll never get back.

@Jason – I might start calling you the Grinch.

@Tripp – You’re refusal to watch Braveheart makes me angry enough to paint blue war paint on my face and chuck a sword into a battlefield.

  11. Than says:

yeah, Goodfellas is up there with the Godfather(s). (but didn’t you just recently see the Godfather?) Even my mom saw it and thought it was good, (she actually said it was hilarious, she also saw the tv version, which must have been extremely edited.)
Saving private ryan was really good.

  12. chris says:

i agree with most of the comments above. i love my movies and “saving private ryan” is one of my favorites. “memento” has really good twists and just well written.

  13. Matt Ralph says:

I’ve seen 7 of the 10 and I’d consider Mystic River the must-see of the bunch.

People are often surprised when I say I’ve never seen and don’t plan on ever seeing any of the Lord of the Rings movies. I also as a rule pretty much always sit out non-Star Wars franchise movies like James Bond, Star Trek, Batman, etc.
