The Power of the Post-It

Here’s two completely unrelated things for the price of one post. You’ll see why I even bothered to put them together in a minute…

1) Post-It

I’ve tried apps for the web, the desktop, and the iPhone. I’ve tried Jott, Evernote, and a bunch of others. I’ve tried using a White-Board in my cube at work, and I’ve tried a notebook too.

But for me it always come back to the one thing that is small, sticky, and always there for me.

The post-it.

What about you? Do you use To-Do lists? How do you stay organized? High-tech applications and gadgets…or pen and paper?

2) Post-It

As i was typing this post up, I suddenly remembered gag I had written up for caedmonscall.net a few years ago. It was a fake news story (we called them “red rumors” back then. the “blue rumors” were the stories that were real) about one of our readers finding a crumpled sheet of paper in the trash after a Caedmon’s show. The note was a letter from bassist Jeff Miller to lead singer Cliff Young, introducing him to a new song he had written called…wait for it…”Post It”.

It’s a love song about a guy with a bad memory, and I wrote the whole thing in a half hour (which explains why it’s terrible.) Anyway, I thought of it, and thought you might find it amusing. I can still remember the exact tune to the song in my head…

“Well, I forgot to change the oil in my car
But I forget to fill the tank, So I’m not going very far”

Phenomenal.
I think I missed my calling.

I use Post-it notes and to-do lists to stay organized!

Gotta love the Post-It. I have them all over my desk. I also use the old fashioned pen-and-paper to-do list. There’s nothing like crossing something off a to-do list yourself…I wouldn’t want a machine (a.k.a. my computer) to take that away that satisfaction.

susan and kristy, good to see that I’m not the only one still working the Post-its!

sometimes I do things that are not on my to-do list, then i add them to the list and cross them off. makes it more official.

  4. I use Post-Its, and other paper, only as a crutch. My system is digital, lives on the Web, and is password-protected. AND I WOULD KILL YOU IF YOU TOOK ME DOWN.

  5. hook me up with a crisp 8 x 11 sheet of paper and a sharpie please. i place all my “to do” things with a little box next to each one and then put a big read check mark in the box when it’s done. oh, the fulfillment i have when i see a paper filled with check marks! loves it! and if i do something that should have been on the to do list, i add it, put the box next to it and then check it off. sometimes i leave them lying around too so Jake can see them and know for sure that i don’t just lay on the couch eating cheetos all day! :-)

  6. how do i put a profile pic on so i don’t have to look so white and nerdy? i hate to look so white and nerdy. how’d i get so white and nerdy?
