My friend Jason Boyett of the Dadequate Blog interviewed me recently about fatherhood, eye-rolls, and destroying malevolent robots with my bare hands. (Okay, so I made that last one up. I kept waiting for him to ask me about that and he never did.)

Question: Do you let your kids win at games?
Answer: Sometimes. The two reasons I usually do this are 1) if I feel like they need a little confidence boost, or 2) if the game we’re playing is never-ending and I can’t take one more second of it (see card games, war).
Q: What is something you’ve passed on to your kids?
A: I’d like to think I’ve passed along my sense of humor to them because they’re pretty funny. They are constantly coming up with crazy ideas to try and one-up each other with absurdity. They’re like my little comedy sketch writers and usually it makes me laugh, except when it doesn’t (see dinner time, pre-meal prayer).
Q: What is something you haven’t passed on to your kids?
A: My nose. They both got their mom’s schnoz, and I think that’s for the best. There are other things that I’m glad I didn’t pass on to them as well, but we don’t need to go into that level of detail here (see bed-wetting, chronic).
